Out of 3 daughters Mimi is our middle child, older sister Iza by 3 minutes and a younger sister Magi by 3 years. Mimi was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on August 12, 2009. After 2 years, 2 months and 26 days on November 6th, 2011 she took her last chemo pill and is considered OFF Treatment! This is our story of our journey through childhood cancer.

We Walked the Walk :)

What a great turn out!

50 + members joined our team and helped to raise money while having fun at the park.

We got up bright and early got on our purple sock monkey tees, socks, bandanas and whatever else purple we had. Purple umbrellas were also packed since the weather was a bit iffy. We got to the park and joined our team members, it was so great to see everyone! I wish I was able to talk to everyone more and thank them for coming to support The Purple Sock Monkeys. The miracle children were given giant red buttons so everyone could identify them as a miracle child and at the end of the walk they were given a medals of honor. Check you the Video Six Flags posted on their Facebook page, you can spot some of us!

This year as a team we raised $4,453.00, although that number will be higher since Mimi received donations from school that still need to be added to the total. All contributions will benefit our local Baystate Children's Hospital a part of the Children's Miracle Network and go to help save and improve the lives of as many children as possible!

Walk with a Monkey!

This year Mimi was chosen to be the ambassador for the Six Flags "A Walk in the Park" Fundraiser.

All proceeds from the walk will benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals which Baystate Children's Hospital is a part of. Every dollar donated will go directly to your local Children’s Miracle Network hospital to support research and training, purchase equipment, pay for uncompensated care and more; all in support of our mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. Fundraising will help support things like research, pediatric education training programs, cutting-edge equipment, and uncompensated care for families right in your backyard.

We will be walking in support of Mimi who has been a brave little monkey just going with the flow of whatever she is asked to do as far as treatments and medicines go, never asking why. Iza and Magi who are Super Sibs and help out when Mimi is not feeling great or is in the hospital. This year the girls' friend Adrianna will be walking with us, we will celebrate her bravery and recovery.

Clinic Day.

Well finally Mimi's counts are not crazy, last week at the ER her WBC was something in the 8's. Today it was much less. She is back to her old self goofing off and running around like a monkey with her sisters. Speaking of MONKEYS we will be walking for the Children's Miracle Network once again this year on June 12th at Six Flags. For those that walked with us last year we hope you can make it out again and we also hope to see some new faces too!!! More details to come soon.

Counts:
WBC - 2.8
Hgb - 11.6
Platelets - 249
Neutrophil - 1100

Oh and we are starting yet another antibiotic (Atovaquone 4mL daily), which only comes in liquid a very yellow liquid, amazingly she was able to keep it down! She has had a lot of issues taking liquid meds I was ready with a bucket but there was no need for it. Hopefully we won't have any issues with it.If we do there is another plan.

A Walk in the Park. WoW. Just WoW!

We hope everyone had a great time walking! A big applause to everyone who contributed and helped us reach our goal plus some, Stacey who raised over $1000, James M. who caught up to Stacey as well! Hannah who was in surgery with a broken arm the day before the walk but came to support her buddy! Everyone who traveled getting up super early to cheer with us, all the shoulders that literally carried Mimi, Iza and Magi. This was awesome!!! We were on the news but I guess a crying mom did not make it on there, I was doing really well until I was asked to tell them about Mimi's journey, thank goodness for Dan being quick!

Clinic Day.

A quick visit for blood counts, which are great! Of course we can't just leave the clinic because Mimi is a little social butterfly and there are always crafts to be done. Mimi has some leg pain, one day starts at her ankle next day knee and sometimes to the hip, it last two or three days but it goes away on it's own without any pain meds. We will just watch it for now.

Today's Counts:
WBC - 5.49
Hgb - 12.5
Platelets - 170
Neutrophil - 3930

Mmmm Cherries!

We have been having lots of fun in the sun and visiting the local fruit store almost daily. This afternoon while I went to work the girls were at Jess' and the five girlies ate large amounts of fruit. Iza was very excited to get cherries today and even more excited when Babcia showed the girls the cherries can be worn as earrings. We have also visited the library a couple of times and found some great books, Tilly and Friends Books quick enough for Magi and funny for everyone, we also got The Jester Has Lost His Jingle Mimi has me read this book to her every time we are at the clinic so I thought Iza might enjoy it as well, it is a great story about finding laughter and happiness inside yourself.

I also wanted to mention the Walk In the Park, our team is doing AWESOME!!! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far. There is still time to join and walk with us we are hoping this week to get t-shirts made.

Purple Sock Monkeys!

A Walk in the Park
Six Flags New England

June 13th
8:30am
Join Us!

Our TEAM Page

This year we will be participating in the 2010 A Walk in the Park All contributions will benefit Cure Kids Cancer and Children's Miracle Network. 100% of the funds raised will go to our local Children's Miracle Network hospital (Baystate Children's Hospital) to help support pediatric cancer programs.

We have told Mimi about this walk and the reasons for it she was very excited to have a team name. Purple is her favorite color, Daddy watches the Red Sox, and Mommy calls us monkeys! So that is where our team name came from :)
